I am the owner and director of The Sands and I have been in the health care industry as a registered manager or director for over 34 years. I also built The Sands so it’s very special to me and I am proud of its reputation as one of the most sought-after care homes in the area.
I have worked at The Sands since 1996 as an experienced and dedicated nurse and trainer. I have recently taken on the role of Care Manager, with my paramount focus being on the well-being of the residents by ensuring they are always treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
As Care Manager, I oversee everything that goes on within the home and operate an open door at The Sands and welcome feedback from residents, their families and friends.
I have 3 grown up children, 2 of which are following their own careers in the nursing environment. I enjoy walking my dog, cycling and looking after my granddaughter.
I have always been keen on training and over the years strived to do as much as I can. In my role of trainer at The Sands I deliver the mandatory training and also provide training in other subjects that benefit the people in our care.
I hold the Professional Trainers Certificate, as well as being a Qualified Facilitator for the University of Sterling Dementia Course for Carers and Advanced Deemetia Care Mapper. It is an area of my work that I feel very passionate about as enabling staff education can only improve the lives of those we look after.
Anne has been with The Sands since 2003 and can be found at the reception desk ready to greet you with a warm smile and friendly hello. It is who Anne shows prospective residents and their families around the home and she is happy to answer any questions you may have.
Here at The Sands we have a large team of nurses and carers dedicated to providing quality care to our residents. Our person centred approach ensures our residents' needs are met and carried out in a dignified and respectful manner.
Jacqui is one of our longest serving members of staff, having worked here for over 19 years. Jacqui organises all the activities the residents attend; a big favourite being Bingo, which the residents insist on playing twice a week! Jacqui arranges professional entertainers to perform for our residents once a month. At Christmas time the residents enjoy a party, a pantomime and even a visit from Santa Claus!
Our team of cooks and kitchen assistants pride themselves on creating home-cooked traditional meals which our generation of residents know and love. Head chef and kitchen manager Nathan Brown started as a part-time kitchen assistant and was promoted within the last year, after passing his catering workplace qualification, for which he was runner-up for the most dedicated apprentice at Lancaster and Morecambe College, Spring 2016
Again, most of our housekeeping team have been with us for more than 15 years. Consisting of domestic cleaners and laundry assistants, these dedicated ladies contribute greatly to the upkeep and homely environment we have created here.

Our mum clearly feels happy and comfortable to be cared for by yourselves and to be surrounded by the friends she has made.
Not living locally, it was reassuring to see that my mother was alright and enjoying herself, she always enjoyed the activity days.
We always felt very confident in your professional abilities and have to say how much we appreciated the efforts of such a committed team.
The love, care and help you gave meant so much to all the family.
